Our team is always on hand to answer any questions that you may have to ensure that you are completely comfortable with this procedure. ​

Vasectomies can be reversed, however the reversal is an expensive process that does not always yield the results that you desire. If you enter this procedure thinking that you may have a means of reversing it later, you may want to re-consider your options of this otherwise permanent contraception method, as it will help ensure that you are definitely ready to undergo it. Reversals are not covered by Medicare and can often cost upwards of $5000. ​

It is our recommendation that you have someone drive you home by private vehicle or cab / Uber. Public transport is also acceptable.

If this is not possible it's important you wait at least 20 minutes after leaving the procedure room, and feel 100% fine, before you commence driving. If you feel lightheaded while driving, pull over immediately.

Our surgeon's experience means a reduced rate of complication, but all surgical procedures carry an element of risk. Your consent form will detail all of the relevant risks, the most prominent of which can be:

1. Bruising that will usually disappear after about a week
2. Mild pain and swelling that will decrease a few days after your procedure.

A less common complication can include a large bruise within the scrotum, however you can reduce your chances of this by avoiding any lifting of heavy objects in the days after your procedure. If this is necessary for the type of work you do, you will require some time off work.

It is very important to note that the vasectomy procedure does not work immediately. You must continue to use other forms of contraception and consider yourself fertile until our team has confirmed to you that your procedure is successful and you are no longer at risk.

This confirmation will involve a semen analysis at the three-month mark to confirm that you are sterile. The reason for this is that it is possible for some remaining semen to exist within the tubes post procedure; which will require time for your body to "clean out the pipes" to confirm the risk of pregnancy is nil. ​

The answer to this question really depends on the type of work you do. If your work involves manual labour, it is vital that you do not lift anything heavy for the first week.

If, on the other hand, you work in an office, you can often go straight back to work. A medical certificate can be provided by our team if you require one to stay home longer.

In most cases it is fine to resume sexual activity after about one week. This can differ based on your individual healing ability, so we recommend taking it slow, and it is vitally important to remember to continue other forms of contraception until we have given you the all-clear.

​At this stage we only offer vasectomy under local anaesthetic. For sedation or general anaesthetic we recommend you obtain a referral to a urologist.

To answer this question there is some good news and bad news.

The bad news: you won't be able to use your private health insurance when you have a vasectomy with us.

That's because we do our vasectomies in medical centres rather than in a private hospital. Private health insurance is only of benefit when you have your procedure performed in a hospital or day surgery by a urologist.

So what's the good news?

1. Private Health usually requires you pay an excess. This excess might be $500 or even up to $1000. A vasectomy with us is only $567 out of pocket.
2. Your urologist will almost certainly have a gap on their fee. This will vary but again could range from a few hundred dollars to over $1000.
3. Nearly all surgeons will want you to be asleep when you have your vasectomy. This means an anaesthetic fee and - you guessed it - a gap fee.
